New Proposals & Initiatives
New and exciting things are happening at FOR. Here is a summary of current project proposals which are planning stages.
Schoolyard to Streambank
FOR has teamed up with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation on this exciting new proposal to the Chesapeake Bay Program. We will select one model school in the Fredericksburg area to implement a prototype "schoolyard to streambank" program. The one you program will allow students in a selected grade level to transform their school's stormwater detention pond into a black willow nursery. Over the course of the year, the students design a restoration project with us at a selected upstream site. Then, they will harvest cuttings from their schoolyard nursery and plant them at the upstream project. We hope to hear on the proposal in late 2000.
Senior Environment Corps
FOR has teamed up with the Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement to develop a corps of seniors to volunteer in riparian restoration projects and monitoring of construction sites for erosion problems. We have a coordinator position now open for the project through Americorps/VISTA. See our home page for more information.
