4 Creepin' Critters Float *

Life abounds in the rocks on the river bottom. Come paddle the river and learn how to assess stream health by "reading the bugs" with guide Joseph Fiorello. 9am-~2pm Ã

We'll float to the site of a historical Indian settlement on the Rappahannock and learn the history of the Native Americans who called this river home. 9am. Ã

18 Civil War Float

Park Service Historian Greg Mertz leads this engaging paddle through the history of the Civil War...from the Rappahannock's perspective. Sells out early! 9am. Ã

24 Something's Fishy...Float Trip O

Naturalist Kenny Mills will lead this float from Mott's Landing back to F.O.R. We'll search the river for turtles and mussels while learning about the still unexplained problems affecting these critters in the river. Bring a lunch; picnic on the rocks. 10am-3pm. Â

July

15-16 River Camp Weekend!

Pro guide Smith Coleman and river-man Rick Kiehna lead this fun-filled 3 day camp for boys age 11-15. Canoeing, river camping, and fishing instruction. Space is limited! 3 day/2 night - includes meals. $150/child.

We'll work up an appetite exploring tidal wetlands by canoe, and then paddle back to the Westmoreland Berry Farm to indulge ourselves with a fresh berry sundae (included). Great family fun! 9am-5pm Ã

12 Lightening Bug Float

It's a magical experience to paddle the glassy river under moonlight. Join us as we learn all about the fireflies that light our way. 9pm. Meet at Fredericksburg's City Dock. Á

Nighttime is when the river comes alive - with Beavers ! Join guide Bob Sargeant on this evening float to see these busy critters at work. 9pm. Meet @ City Dock. Á

26 Shark Tooth / Fossil Float F

We'll paddle along Westmoreland Park's Potomac shore and meet up with a naturalist for a program on the shark's teeth and fossils that abound on the shoreline. Bring a picnic lunch for the beach and a spaghetti strainer for fossil sifting! 10am-4pm. Ã

16 Rappahannock RiverFest 2000

Wine and dine on crab and succulent steamship round of beef at FOR's annual gala on the banks of the Rappahannock at Ferry Farm, George Washington's Boyhood Home. Live music, fine food, entertainment, and an auction make this an annual sell out. Tickets in ADVANCE ONLY! $45/person. Call .

7-8 Starlight Overnighter <

Guide Bill Micks will lead you through the pristine "confluence" section of the Rappahannock. You'll camp under the stars at the junction of the Rappahannock and Rapidan. Bring own food and gear. 9am. Ä

All programs originate at Friends of the Rappahannock's office, unless otherwise stated. Our street address (not for mailing) is 3219 Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg. Our mailing address is listed below.

* The Family Rate is for up to 4 persons. The Family rate is for parents and their children only. Additional family members pay the individual rate.

Reservations REQUIRED

Reservations are REQUIRED for all canoe trips and hikes. For signups or trip details, call FOR at , email us at , or visit our web site at www.crrl.org/for. Reservations are not final until we receive your payment. Mail payments to FOR, P.O. Box 7254, Fredericksburg, Va 22404. If we cancel, you will get a choice of a refund or a credit.

 

We'll put your name down on the trip list and hold a spot for one week until we receive your payment - which locks in your reservation. You space is not guaranteed until we receive your payment - so please send in your check right away.
