Riparian Restoration PROJECTS IN PROGRESS
"Conservation Through Cooperation"

F.O.R. is working cooperatively with farmers and other landowners
in the Rapidan River watershed to plant streamside forest buffers
and to install fences to keep livestock out of the streams.
In addition to offering up to 100% funding, our volunteers are out
on weekends helping plant the trees.

If you are interested in learning about how we can help stabilize your
streambanks, protect water quality, and enhance wildlife habitat, please
contact Suzanne Rhodes-Humbert, F.O.R. Rapidan Watershed Coordinator,

Here are some current projects:

Schuldiner Farm - Robinson River. Madison, Virginia - Phase 1 of 3
--- A Gradall loaned from VDOT was used to pull back the banks.
--- Over 60 volunteers help restore the streambank and plant trees.
--- Tree shelters mark the location of a new forest.
--- Aerial Photo of the Project Area.

Campbell Field
We are working with the landowner and the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District to erect 1,300 feet of fence to get the livestock out of the stream. Over 2 acres of riparian land will be protected.

Davis Farm
We erected fence to protect 529 feet of stream that was impacted by livestock access. Notice the livestock trail along the New fence.

Jacobi Farm
At this farm in the upper headwaters of the Rappahannock, we erected fence to protect 10 acres of streamside land from livestock, and we replanted the buffer areas.

Retreat Farm
At Retreat Farm, the new growth is already coming in now that we have set more than 3,000 feet of fence, protecting 4 acres.

Stanley Farm
Over 1,000 feet of fenced buffer is now bringing Proctor's Creek back to health.

Lovett Farm -- Tributary to Rapidan River. Unionville, Virginia Pre-Project
---We will be helping the farmer fence his livestock out of the headwater area.
